JLC is building a different kind of nonprofit that is lead by the community it serves, Black woman-founded, and rooted in research on what actually helps people feel connected, supported, and less alone. Our programs are open to the public, which means your membership directly helps make the work possible.

A membership or even a small donation supports the people who create and facilitate our programs, providing supplies and resources, and allowing us to compensate our volunteers with stipends for their time and labor. We are NOT a networking club and our primary goal is not about social events, it’s about actual programming for our community that focuses on literacy, mental and emotional well being and combating isolation.

Every program is intentionally designed around evidence-informed practices that support mental and emotional well-being, and we lead each program design by asking how do people feel when they leave? Our experienced board studies, researches, and thoughtfully evaluates the work behind what we do so that JLC can build responsibly and with real purpose. Starting at just $25 a year, membership is a way to invest in a new model of community care and helps us keep creating meaningful spaces where people can connect with one another in a way that they normally wouldn’t have. Our work is to also help people continue to have access to resources that make them feel less isolated and more in touch with their emotions and mental capacity.
